Fear Effect -PS1- 8

Last week I bought Fear Effect from Game Dude . I rented this back in high school, but I never beat it until now. (I got the normal ending with Hana, but I watched the other two endings on YouTube right afterwards.) I’m giving Fear Effect an 8 out of ten. The graphical style looks like a mix of anime and rotoscoping with the characters, but with fmv and pre-rendered backgrounds. It’s quite striking, and still impressive to this day. I liked the story, but perhaps I would have appreciated some aspects more with a deeper understanding of the mythology. It also reminded me a bit of Snatcher and Catherine in that the story is aimed very much at adults, which is great. The puzzles and controls are like Resident Evil, but a bit more frustrating. Thankfully I had YouTube to help me when I got stuck. And abusing the dodge-roll is a must with how limited the gun ammo is. Anyway, despite some little bits of frustration in the gameplay, Fear Effect was a cool game with a striking visual style.
