I just beat Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo Wii! This game came out in 2010, and it is a reimagining of the N64 classic, but with Daniel Craig instead of Pierce Brosman. This game was surprisingly good! When I popped it in, it looked a bit “meh” at first, but it just got better and better as it went along. This game mixes up a lot of great memories from the original movie and game and has fun with the idea of tailoring the story around Daniel Craig’s Bond. They throw in a lot of classic one-liners from the original, like “Boys with Toys,” but they change a lot of details with the story and characters. This game was released long after a lot of advanced shooters had already come out, but I think it did a great job with the old school style. The action was intense and the stealth is really well done. And the wii motion controls work shockingly well. I usually hate motion controls, but in this game they up the level of immersion. Goldeneye even has four player split screen, which I haven’t had a chance to fully experience yet, but I did play a couple rounds of two player with the wife and it was a lot of fun. Does Goldeneye on the Wii beat the groundbreaking N64 classic? Not quite. But it’s still a fantastic game and easily the best FPS on the Wii. I have to give this one at least an 8.5.
