Magical Quest 3 -Super Famicom- 7.5

Wife and I just beat Magical Quest 3 together on normal mode. This is a sequel to the classic original that came out for the Super Nintendo, but this was only released in Japan. (I believe part 2 made it here as “The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey&Minnie”, but I never played it.) Anyway, Magical Quest 3 is another polished action platformer from Capcom with the Disney license, but this time with 2 player co-op. It’s got a few different suits to wear with different abilities, and each suit does something different for either Donald or Mickey. Most of the game is easy and simple enough, but the tree climbing segments can get quite tricky and frustrating. And with 2 players at the same time, coordination and team work is key, otherwise you will lose lives quickly. There are frequent checkpoints, but the last level starts you over from the beginning if you run out of lives and have to continue. (I didn’t notice that happening in the other levels.) My wife and I barely beat the final boss, so that was a good sense of accomplishment. Anyway, I’ll be strict and give this a 7.5 out of ten. It’s nothing new, but it does everything well enough to be solid entertainment with a partner.
