I beat Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the first time just now. I remember when this game came out in 2004, that year was utterly stacked with other first person shooters that gobbled up any hype this game had. But I finally played and finished it now. The game does not have the wow factor that Prime 1 had at all, nor does it push the genre forward the way the nes original, Super Metroid, and Prime 1 did. However, it was still a very satisfying adventure shooter with epic boss battles. It’s also longer and more challenging than I remember Prime 1 being. Even though it never reaches the heights of the original, Super, or Prime 1, it’s still a very good game. The light and dark worlds were cool, and it was good to see the screw attack come back. Atmospheric level exploration in this series is always great, and this entry delivers that in droves. I would rate nes Metroid, Super Metroid, and the first Metroid Prime all 10’s. Prime 2 and Metroid Fusion get 8.5’s. Again, very good games, but they do not expand the gameplay of the series like the others did.
