Nier Replicant -PS4- 7

December 3, 2021

Earlier today, I beat Nier Replicant, sort of. I finished one playthrough and got the first ending. From my understanding, it is supposed to be like Nier Automata, in that you have to play through it several times to get the full story. And every playthrough is different. However, when I started up my second playthrough this evening, there was literally over an HOUR of reading some story about Kaine, her grandmother, and some bully. This is a videogame, not a book. After about 20 minutes, I looked up on YouTube that there was another hour, and just shut it off. Does anyone know if it’s worth going through the second playthrough after you reach the first ending? I also saw on YouTube that there are a lot of extra scenes that were not in my ending. I’m sure this game deserves multiple playthroughs, but for now, I am not motivated to do that right away. I have too many other games on my backlog. Anyway, what did I think of the game in my 20 hours with it? It is a good game, but not great. And not at the level of Nier Automata. I gave Automata a 9.5, but Replicant…for now, a 7. It’s got good music, memorable characters, and very good voice acting, but when everything was said and done with the story at the end, it just didn’t quite wow me the way other RPG’s have, or the way Automata did. Still, it’s a briskly paced rpg with an interesting premise of a a boy trying to save his sister from a disease. I like the part in the middle where Emil finds out he’s a weapon and is ashamed about the way he looks when he changes. And when the story fast forwards 5 years and your main character is older and more mature, but still determined to find his sister. However, why did they have to make Kaine in underwear the whole time? Was it literally just for fanboy service? I found a bit distracting, to be honest. Anyway, for those that have played and beat the game, let me know your thoughts and if there is anything I should reconsider with more playthroughs. I still a little confused by the opening of the game that takes place in present time.
