This week, I finally played Silent Hill 3 and I just finished it tonight. (I beat 1&2 a couple years ago.) The graphics, sound, atmosphere, and art design were all stellar and up to the standard of the series. And I loved the female protagonist. Her innocence was a great contrast to the horrific backdrops. It was interesting how it connected to the first game, even if the plot does get a little murky and confusing (which was true about part 1&2, as well.) There are multiple reincarnations of the same person, and religious leaders going against each other, and it was hard to keep up with all the subtleties of the story sometimes. The gameplay is the same as in the first and second game, but with a little more polish. These were some of the best graphics on the PS2. The environments were sometimes hard to navigate and the puzzles could be a bit cryptic, so I had to use an online guide here and there. Overall, this was another quality title from a series that has a huge following. I think the original Silent Hill is still my favorite, but this was a very worthy sequel that brought the same level of creepiness the series is known for. I’m giving Silent Hill 3 an 8 out of ten.
